Lyrics
Bananas in pyjamas are coming down the stairs,
Bananas in pyjamas are coming down in pairs,
Bananas in pyjamas are chasing teddy bears,
‘Cos on Tuesdays they are trying ‘a catch them unawares.
Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers,
A peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked;
If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers,
Where's the peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked?
Bananas in pyjamas are coming down the stairs,
Bananas in pyjamas are coming down in pairs,
Bananas in pyjamas are chasing teddy bears,
‘Cos on Tuesdays they are trying ‘a catch them unawares.
Fee, Fie, Foh, Fum!
I smell the blood of an Englishman:
Be he alive or be he dead,
I'll grind his bones to make my bread.
Bananas in pyjamas are coming down the stairs,
Bananas in pyjamas are coming down in pairs,
Bananas in pyjamas are chasing teddy bears,
‘Cos on Tuesdays they are trying ‘a catch them unawares.
Curly Locks! curly locks! wilt thou be mine?
Thou shall't not wash dishes, nor yet feed the swine,
But sit on a cushion and sew a fine seam,
And feed upon strawberries, sugar, and cream! (Ha Ha Ha Ha)
Bananas in pyjamas are coming down the stairs,
Bananas in pyjamas are coming down in pairs,
Bananas in pyjamas are chasing teddy bears,
‘Cos on Tuesdays they are trying ‘a catch them unawares.

History & Background
History & Origin
Bananas in Pyjamas began its life in 1967 as a poem by the British composer Carey Blyton — nephew of the celebrated children's author Enid Blyton. The poem was set to music and recorded in the early 1970s, but it was the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's decision to build a children's television series around the characters B1 and B2 that made it a global phenomenon.
The ABC series, which first aired in 1992, followed the cheerful adventures of two large bananas in striped pyjamas and their friend Amy the Teddy. It ran for multiple series and was sold to broadcasters in over 20 countries, introducing Bananas in Pyjamas to a generation of children worldwide.
The song itself is simple and irresistible — a cheerful descending phrase, a memorable cast of characters, and enough internal logic to make it feel like the beginning of a story rather than just a tune. It is one of the clearest examples in children's music of how a well-placed piece of pure silliness can outlast almost everything around it. B1 and B2 remain among the most recognisable characters in children's entertainment, and the song shows no signs of fading.
