Beanbag, Beanbag,
Play a game of beanbag,
(Toss it first to Laura Lee),
(Then to Jenny),
Then to me.
Beanbag, Beanbag,
Play a game of beanbag.

History & Background

History & Origin

Beanbag Beanbag is an original action and movement song created for the Nursery Rhymes Collections, designed to get young children on their feet and using their bodies.

Movement songs occupy a special place in early childhood. The combination of music, rhythm and physical activity is one of the most effective ways to help young children develop co-ordination, spatial awareness and motor skills — and doing all of this within a group setting adds the crucial elements of turn-taking, co-operation and social play.

Beanbags themselves have been a staple of physical education and play for generations. Their weight makes them satisfying to throw and catch, their softness makes them safe, and their adaptability — balance them on a head, pass them under a leg, toss them in a circle — makes them endlessly versatile. A song built around beanbag play brings structure and rhythm to what might otherwise be chaotic physical activity, making the movement purposeful and the fun shared.
