Lyrics
This is the time to turn out the light
And then kiss your mummy goodnight.
Now that the sun is fading away
At the end of this beautiful, beautiful day.
Your eyes now get smaller, you're tired my dear,
The stars twinkling gently and clear.
So now that the sun has faded away
At the end of this beautiful, beautiful day.
This day has grown old, the night will be cold,
But you have got someone to hold.
Your bed is so cosy now, turn out the light,
And then kiss your mummy and daddy goodnight.
Goodnight.

History & Background
History & Origin
"Star Sky Lullaby" is an original song written by Mike Wilbury in 2009, created especially for the Nursery Rhymes Collections project. It is designed for the very last moments of the day — the light going out, the goodnight kiss, the stars appearing as the sun fades — and its gentle, unhurried quality suits that transition perfectly.
The song builds a picture of evening in three verses: the sun setting, the eyes growing heavy, the night turning cold. Each verse returns to "the end of this beautiful, beautiful day" — a phrase that frames every day, however ordinary, as something worth marking and celebrating before sleep.
"You have got someone to hold" is the song's emotional core: the reassurance that the child is not alone in the dark, that the cosy bed and the people nearby are real and present. This kind of concrete, practical comfort is what the best lullabies offer — not a fantasy of safety, but the specific warmth of an actual blanket, an actual hand, an actual goodnight.
The song reflects the broader spirit of the Nursery Rhymes Collections: that the hours surrounding a child's sleep deserve music that is made with care and performed by real musicians.
