Origin and background

It is thought that the song refers to the Great Fire of London. In 1666, between September 2nd and 5th the Great Fire of London destroyed about 80% of London and left 100,000 residents homeless. Just before that the population was hit haunted by the last great plague. Finally, London survived the disaster, like the ones before and the ones after.
